"Taleen Kali composes punk, psych, and synth rock all into a fireball of a project." - New Noise Magazine
She is a musician, visual artist, and writer native to Los Angeles. After coming up in the local scene as frontwoman of riot grrrl band TÜLIPS, she went solo at Echo Park Rising Fest 2016 and has since shared bills with indie luminaries such as Ex Hex, Alice Bag, Seth Bogart, Kimya Dawson, Madame Gandhi, and others.
Soul Songs was her solo debut EP released in 2018 produced by Kristin Kontrol (fka Dum Dum Girls) and mixed by Brad Laner of American shoegazers Medicine. It was recorded at the legendary Sunset Sound Studios in Hollywood and finds Taleen’s riot grrrl ethos maturing into a polished punk sound with noise pop, shoegaze, and new wave influences. Soul Songs was featured on Stereogum who likened the sound to a contemporary Blondie, BUST Magazine who called it “dark and danceable,” Pitchfork’s Guide to Summer Albums, and LA Weekly’s Best Indie Punk Albums, and her song “Half Lie” was recently placed featured NBC’s show “Council Of Dads.”
The band followed up their first EP with an unplugged version of Soul Songs and two covers: “Baby Love” by The Supremes and “#1 Crush” by Garbage. The second EP, Songs For Meditation is out November 5 on Dum Dum Records. Taleen and her band are currently finishing up their full length album slated for 2022.
A multi-hypenate to the core, Taleen is founder of what L.A. Times calls “cult favorite” DUM DUM Zine and organizes literary events, sound healing meditations, and works as a creative when she’s not on tour. Poetry, essays, and visual art appear in The Onion, SPIN, Entropy, Razorcake, Los Angeleno, The Bushwick Review, TL;DR Magazine, Yes Poetry, and publications all over the country.
She is generously endorsed by Fender and Death By Audio Effects Pedals.
